My First Week at Maltshop: Tyllor

If you have worked multiple jobs, you most likely have a favorite employer/supervisor among them. Or if you have never worked, maybe a favorite professor/instructor? It just naturally happens that someone gave you a better experience than the others.

In my case, I have had a few supervisors and have been fortunate enough to not receive any bad experiences. Although it has only been a short time, Erin and Dellanee have made me feel like more than just an intern. I feel very welcomed, appreciated, and have been shown a lot of patience. I am sure that it can seem common for interns to be treated very poorly in the working world.

There are certainly enough stories to discourage the average young person, but I am here to reassure you it is worth it when you find the right company. Countless companies and corporations require so many years of experience. Is it unrealistic to expect much from recent grads? Absolutely! But as someone who has struggled with feeling the pressure of accomplishing so much in a short period of time, just BREATHE. The process can be exhausting waiting for someone to see your potential but when someone finally does, I promise all that worry quickly turns to relief. (Also, remember to take breaks because your mental health is the most important thing.) It will happen for you as long as you go after what you are truly passionate about and never give up.

With this internship, I am looking forward to becoming more familiar with the marketing side of design. Marketing has always been an important tool for success even when the world was less digitized. There is a lot of thought that must go into how colors are used, what font to choose, and who you are marketing to directly. I would like to use this opportunity to become more comfortable with those thought processes and eventually being able to just shoot out multiple ideas at a time. I am also looking forward to improving on my animation skills. I am pretty much self-taught and working on more “real world” projects is beyond exhilarating. There is so much that I am hoping to accomplish and experience within this internship, but I have no doubt that it will be just as rewarding for me as it would be for the Maltshop Team.

For any future interns and/or employees, do not be afraid to step up. This company is fortunate enough to be led by the most respectful and aware ladies but even if it was not, you should always remember that you have a voice that cannot be silenced. You obviously must be conscious of your role but do not allow it to discourage you from contributing great ideas.

The world is big and scary, but we always have MUSIC. You can do it!
